Zlata
Koruna monastry |
|
The Czech king Premysl Otakar II founded
the monastry at the beginning of 1263 for the powerful Cistercian
order. In April that year the first monks arrived from the mother
monastry, Heiligenkreuz in lower Austria. Originally the monastry
was called Sancta Spinea Corona (the holy crown of Thorns) but
later simply Svata Koruna (holy crown) Ordinary people started to
call it Zlata Koruna (golden crown), a title more appropiate to
the monestry's welth and splendour. Well worth to stop for a
visit and you find the monastry on the road almost right between
Ceske Budejovice and Cesky Krumlov.
