Pardubice

The first preserved mention of Pardubice is dated back to 1295, but the municipal emblem refers to a legend during the siege of Milan in 1158. The falling gate reputedly cut the horse of Jesek of Pardubice, the bravest knight from Vladislav II's army. In 1340 Arnost of Pardubice, the future first archbishop of Prague inheited the town. They withstood the attac by the Swedish General Torstenson in 1645 during the thirthy years war, but as a revenge the whole town were burnt down.

Today you can see the resturated buildings nicely situated along the huge town square, Pernstynovo namesti. On a house on the east front you can see illustrated Jonas being swallowed by the whale. Have a look around, and I hope you like what you see.
