A CULTURAL TRAVEL THROUGH IMAGES

Egypt - miSr (in arabic)
Abu Simbel - Nasser lake

Abu Simbel was carved out of the mountain on the west bank of the Nile between 1274 and 1244 BC, and the temple was dedicated to the gods Ra-Harakhty, Amun and Ptah and to Ramses II. The facade is about 30m high and 35m wide. The statues in front are more than 20m high. The second, temple of Hathor, is dedicated to Queen Nefertari, Ramses II's beloved wife. The statues in front of the entery are 10m high. Four are dedicated to Ramses II and two to Nefertari. Inside both temples are great carvings and inscriptions etc, but no photo please. When the big dam was built, UNESCO started the big jog to cut the temples into smaller pices and move them both up above the new sea-level. A big, succesfull job we can see today.
