When the dam was built, the temple complex were moved from one island to the present one between 1972 and 1980 now 20m higher, which rescued the temples for us to see today. First indications of temples are from 380-362 BC during Nectanebo I and increased by Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285-246BC). When the first christian arrived they transformed the main temple into a chapel. Today we see this since many of the faces of the ancient gods were chopped off. The hiroglypes are still there, so we can still read about the old times. A very interesting visit to the temple, with a little boattrip from the mainland and back.
