At sunrise we were already at Edfu and could start exploring the temple right after an early breakfast. The temple is dedicated to the falcongod Horus and Ptolemy III strated the construction in 237 BC and Ptolemy XII finished the work in 237 BC, and he was the father of Cleopatra. The entrance is through a massive 36m high gylon, guarded by two huge and splendid granite falcons and decorated with colossal reliefs of Ptolemy XII grasping the hair of his enemies in order to smash their skulls. When you get inside you enter the Great court with decorated walls and colums. Continue further and finally you are at the Sancary of Horus. Dont miss the outer walls which are totally decorated. I present some of these decorations on a separate page. Look around, and I think you will be as impressed as I were.
