| Man Mo
Temple |

Located on the
corner of Hollywood Road and Ladder Street, Man Mo Temple was
built in the 1840s and is one of Hong Kong's oldest and
atmospheric temples. 'Man Mo' means civil and military, and the
temple is dedicated to the God of Literature Man Cheong and the
God of War Kuan Ti. Man Mo Temple is popular with both the
Buddhist and Daoist communities in Hong Kong.
Huge bell shaped
coils of incense burned by the devout hang from the ceiling and
the temple is enveloped in the smoke and scent of burning
incense. Beside the entrance are wooden sedan chairs (which
resemble small shrines), dating from the 19th century. During
religious festivals, these chairs were used to transport the
statues around the streets of Hong Kong.
