The drive from the border
and to the main goal in Honduras, the Maya ruins in Copān did
not take too long. It is a huge area and the local guide took us
around and explained the history of the Mayas and also of this
area. The ruins are from around 250 AD and abandaned around 820
and the valley was empty around 1000. The the jungle took over
and it was lost in memory until it was re-discovered in 1934 by
the explorer Juan Calino. Today the city is on the list of
UNESCO. Well worth a visit
