Peru - Puno district

Walk around in Puno

Puno is situated at the shore of Lake Titicaca and has around 130000 inhabitants. Its 3800m above sea level, so many newcomers have some problems during the start of the stay, but usually you will feel ok after a day or two, just take it easy and don't rush around. Not so very much to see around, but in the central part of the town you can still find some older buildings and institutions. Some years ago you could sail by steamships across the lake, but the new and modern roads took all transport and boats had to close down. You can still visit one of the steamers, today a museum.
