Salinas de Maras

For ages the water coming out of the mountain has been salty, very salty, and this has been dried and made into real salt. The area where this is going on is really huge, and filled with small ponds where the salty water is lead, sealed off to dry and the salt filled into bags to be sold. It was interesting waling along these small ponds and see the development into salt, and a nice walk too.

Such lovely landscape along the road
Panorama view of landscape and the saltpounds
Various stages of the production of salt
Altar
Various from the rest of the walk back to the bus
