Peru - Cuzco province

Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo was an Inka military, religious and agricultural center. here the fortress located in the highest part of the mountain, protected the valley from invaders. The view of the town from the top is overwhelming. Narrow streets and water channels are still used by the locals. When Hernando Pizarro attacked in 1536 the strong military of the inkas defeted him several times, before he finally succeded in defeting the town. Very nice and interesting to walk, and it was quite hard to 'run' up all the stairs to the top, but well worth.

The last inka area we visited, and what a collections of organised stones we found here too
