A CULTURAL TRAVEL THROUGH IMAGES

VENEZUELA
Colonial Tovar

The Tovar colony was founded by German settlers in 1843 and was more or less isolated until the road was constructed in the 1960's. The colony is famous for its week-end markeds. To get to the colony you have to climb the road going up the hillside, and the colony is located about 1800m above sealevel. The town has retained much of its original architecture, and gives a typical impression of buildingstyle found in the southern region of Germany, Most of the original settlers came from the Schwartzwald (Black forest) region in South Germany.
