Sortland - the blue town

The first thing you will notice in Sortland are all the bluepainted houses in the central part of the town. It was decided to do this and work is now completed. In adition to the blue houses, there are inscriptions to be found around that can give you something to think about. Sortland was an important place as far back as around year 1000 when some important 'small kings' had their seat here. Fishing has always been important, and when most of the are were opend by building bridges and tunnels have made it even more expansive. Sortland is the largest town in the region with around 4600 living in the town. Sortland got the constitution of town in 1997.
