Sortland - the blue town |
|
The first thing you will notice in
Sortland are all the bluepainted houses in the central part of
the town. It was decided to do this and work is now completed. In
adition to the blue houses, there are inscriptions to be found
around that can give you something to think about. Sortland was
an important place as far back as around year 1000 when some
important 'small kings' had their seat here. Fishing has always
been important, and when most of the are were opend by building
bridges and tunnels have made it even more expansive. Sortland is
the largest town in the region with around 4600 living in the
town. Sortland got the constitution of town in 1997.
